Former Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz has formed a political action committee to run for Governor in 2028. The newly formed entity called Utah Victory PAC lists Chaffetz as its chairman along with an office space in Bethesda, Maryland.
On March 13, 2025 Chaffetz transferred the entire balance – $113,633.64 — of his remaining congressional campaign account American Victory PAC to his new Utah Victory PAC.

Those close to Chaffetz indicate that he intends to gather signatures and pursue the support of state convention delegates. Key supporters of Chaffetz have also supported the opponent of Phil Lyman for state party chair as a proxy battle in an attempt to weaken the former gubernatorial candidate who announced his own plans to also run for Governor in 2028.
When resigning his Congressional seat in 2017, Chaffetz previously discussed interest in running for Governor in 2020, an opportunity he ultimately declined.

According to the Deseret News, Chaffetz purchased multiple website domains indicating interest in a run for Governor, including the 2009 purchase of the domain JasonForGovernor.com, just a few months after first being elected to Congress.

Before resigning from Congress in 2017, he also purchased the domains Jason2028.com and JasonChaffetz2028.com. Filing for the seat will not officially occur until January 2028.
